This week’s Pet of the Week is reliable old tabby Bella, who lives with avid Welwyn Hatfield Times readers Chetna and Devi Jankowicz.

After her previous owner passed away, 13-year-old Bella was rescued from the Cat’s Protection League shelter three years ago and wasted no time in making herself at home with her new family.

“She took one look around and thought to herself, ‘this is a good billet’,” said Devi.

Her favourite pastimes are keeping a close eye on the garden from the comfort of a chair, and catching a wee afternoon nap curled up on the sofa with Chetna.

Her family describes her as a very quiet puss, except for when she thinks she is being ignored – when she interrupts all conversation with a loud, outraged miaow.

That’s the signal that it’s time for her brushing, a second helping of breakfast, or that she wants her favourite treat – a knob of butter.

If she can, she will trick every family member into thinking that she hasn’t been brushed yet that day so that she can purr her way through another session.

Though she’s an elderly cat with a wobbly belly to match, she has her kittenish moments and loves to hunt a feather waggled through a cardboard box that Chetna and Devi keep in the living room for her to play in.

If you have an adorable furry friend or a hilarious picture of your pet, send photos and a description to petoftheweek@whtimes.co.uk.

Please include where you live in Welwyn Hatfield or Potters Bar and your phone number so we can let you know if your pet is crowned.
