“OSAMA Bin Laden is living in Welwyn Garden City.”

That was the bizarre claim made by a visitor to one of MP Grant Shapps’ constituency surgeries.

The whereabouts of the now-deceased global terror chief was the subject of a long-running, globe-scouring search by US and other security services, but it is unlikely Welwyn Garden City factored in their operations.

The ‘tip-off’ was made when the former al-Qaeda leader was still alive and, as later revealed, holed up Abbottabad, in Pakistan.

Today (Friday) Tory Party Chairman and Welwyn Hatfield MP Mr Shapps tweeted: “Busy & varied constituency surgery today, but nothing as surprising as time when a constituent came to tell me Bin Laden was living in WGC!”

When asked about the tweet Mr Shapps said: “Tis true.

“Someone once came to my surgery and insisted that he knew where Bin Laden was.

“I queried this and he told me I’d find him in WGC.

“[I] can’t recall which road.”

Bin Laden’s demise has since committed to the silver screen in Oscar-winning film ‘Zero Dark Thirty’.
