COMEDY superstar Simon Pegg’s new movie The World’s End is to be filmed in Welwyn Garden City, the Welwyn Hatfield Times can exclusively reveal.

Casting for extras for the final part of the so-called ‘Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy’ consisting of the new feature plus smash hits, 2004’s Shaun of the Dead and 2007 blockbuster Hot Fuzz, took place in WGC on August 24.

All three films star Pegg and sidekick Nick Frost and are directed by Edgar Wright.

Herts resident Pegg and Frost’s Paul, which was released last year was not part of the trilogy as Edgar Wright, who also collaborated with the duo on cult late-90s/early noughties slacker comedy Spaced, was not involved.

The session took place at Oaklands College Campus and in the movie’s other setting – Letchworth Garden City – the following day.

Tamara King, who arranged the call for extras on behalf of production company Working Title Films, said the two sessions garnered 183 extras for the apocalyptic comedy.

A further casting call, for men and woman over 16 years of age, will be held in Hitchin tomorrow (Tuesday).

The film centres on a group of friends who, 20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl in their home town, reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again.

As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realise reaching the fabled pub, The World’s End is to be more of a literal experience than they first envisaged.

  • If it's another zombie flick there are no shortage of dead eyed, slack jawed shuffling creatures in Hatfield who are a shoe in as extras.

  • There aren't that many pubs in WGC so it might be a short film!! [Looking forward to it - I loved Shaun of the Dead, Paul and Hot Fuzz!]
