Murder investigation launched following woman’s death in Welwyn Garden City

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in Welwyn Garden City.
Police were called at 10.54pm yesterday (Tuesday, August 15) to Blythway, Welwyn Garden City, following reports of a domestic related incident in which a woman had allegedly been assaulted.
A police spokeswoman said: “Officers attended the scene immediately and while they were at the location, the woman became unwell.
“Paramedics were called but the woman, aged in her 60s, sadly died at the scene.
“The man, who is aged in his 50s and had initially been arrested on suspicion of assault, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.”
A police scene guard remains in place at the property in Blythway at this time.
Detective Inspector Fraser Wylie, from the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit, said: “We are still working to establish the circumstances around what happened last night but I can confirm we are not seeking anyone else in connection with this incident.
“At this early stage, we are following several lines of enquiry and are keeping an open mind as to what caused this woman’s death.
“Our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time.”
