Police were called at about 10.20pm to Ethelred Close last night and a man was found in Ludwick Way with stab wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics.
A Herts Police spokesman said: “It is not believed to be gang related.
“The road remains closed at this time.
“No-one has been charged at this stage.
“We are not releasing any details of the victim at this time.
“We cannot comment on the injuries or the weapons used at this early stage of the investigation.”
The spokesman added: “Local Safer Neighbourhood officers are already out in the area, engaging with the local community to provide reassurance.
“If anyone has any concerns, please don’t hesitate to speak with them.”
Earlier this morning, Detective Chief Inspector Jerome Kent said: “This incident has tragically resulted in the loss of a life and our thoughts are with the man’s family at this extremely difficult time and we are continuing to support them.
“I would urge anyone who witnessed what happened, heard or saw anything unusual in the area around the time of the incident, or has any other information – however insignificant it may seem – to come forward and speak to my officers. Please contact us via 101, quoting Operation Burgundy.”
Detective Chief Inspector Kent is from the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit and is leading the investigation.
