PET owners can get their animals microchipped for just £5 – about a quarter of the usual price – at a special event today (Saturday) at the Blue Cross rehoming centre in Kimpton.
The charity is hosting sessions from 10am to noon, and 2pm to 4pm, as part of National Microchipping Month.
Dogs, cats and small pets in a suitable carrier are welcome, and advance booking is not essential.
Blue Cross manager Lynda Campbell said: “It’s so important to microchip your animal to protect them if they should be lost or stolen.
“It’s a small price to pay when you consider the heartache of losing them forever.”
In the 12 months to April 30, 70 per cent of all the animals taken in by the Kimpton centre did not have a microchip, which meant staff had no way of contacting their owners.
Over that same period, 500 animals were chipped by the Blue Cross before being found new homes.
