A man in his 70s has died after the car he was travelling in left the A1(M) northbound carriageway and crashed into trees between Welwyn and Stevenage at the weekend.

The man was taken to hospital following the crash – which happened between Junction 6 for Welwyn and Junction 7 for Stevenage at about 7.15am on Saturday morning – and police have confirmed today that sadly he has passed away.

A woman, also in her 70s, was treated at hospital for minor injuries.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses, and ask anyone who thinks they may have seen the vehicle involved – a red Nissan Juke – prior to the crash to come forward.

If you have information call the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit via the non-emergency number 101, quoting ISR 169 of September 2.
