Man dead after stabbing in Welwyn Garden City

A man has been arrested after a man was stabbed and died in Welwyn Garden City last night.

At around 10.20pm yesterday police were called to Ethelred Close following a report by the ambulance service that a man had been seriously assaulted.

A police spokeswoman said: “Officers and the ambulance service attended and located the man in Ludwick Way.

“He had sustained stab wounds.

“The air ambulance also attended.

“Despite the best efforts of the officers and ambulance service, sadly the man passed away at the scene.

“The man’s next of kin have been informed and are currently being supported by specialist Family Liaison Officers.”

A man has been arrested in connection with this incident and is currently in police custody.

The road remains closed at this time.

Detective chief inspector Jerome Kent from the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation and said: “This incident has tragically resulted in the loss of a life and our thoughts are with the man’s family at this extremely difficult time and we are continuing to support them.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed what happened, heard or saw anything unusual in the area around the time of the incident, or has any other information – however insignificant it may seem – to come forward and speak to my officers.

“Please contact us via 101, quoting Operation Burgundy.”
