Two builders who faced prison for blunders that killed a Welwyn Garden City man working for them walked free from court today.

Managing director Trevor Hyatt, 49, of Letty Green, and 59-year-old project manager Alfred Barker of Gazeley, Suffolk were given suspended prison sentences by judge Andrew Bright at St Albans Crown Court for health and safety offences causing the death of Gareth Jones.

Their company, Linley Developments Ltd, was fined £200,000, after pleading guilty to corporate manslaughter over the accident on January 30, 2013, and ordered to pay £25,000 costs.

Hyatt was fined £25,000, and ordered to pay £7,500 costs, but Barker was ordered to pay just £5,000 costs.
