Motorists passing through Welwyn Hatfield on the A1(M) can be in absolutely no doubt as to what the majority of people think about the hated scheme.

With the public consultation on Veolia Environmental Services’ planning application to build a 380,000-tonne incinerator at New Barnfield closing today, mystery protesters have hung a large banner from a bridge over the A1(M) bearing the words “NO INCINERATOR” in large red letters.

Cars heading northbound towards junction two for Welham Green cannot fail to spot the striking message, which hangs over a footbridge linking Swanland Road and Tollgate Road, close to North Mymms Cricket Club.

There is still time to oppose the scheme in a more formal manner, by emailing Hertfordshire County Council today at newbarnfieldplanning@hertscc.gov.uk
