A Knebworth woman who had a life-saving heart and lung transplant has reflected on her experience.

Kathryn Graham, 54, of Stevenage Road, suffered with pulmonary hypertension, a heart condition involving raised blood pressure that affects blood supply to the lungs.

The mum-of-two spent two years on an operation waiting list, a period she described as “horrific”.

“It was a pretty awful period because I was diagnosed with a disease that was getting worse and has no cure,” she said.

However, following surgery in 2013, she was taught to walk again, and after months of physio is now doing things she said she never dreamt she could.

“You value every single day after going through something like that. I’m still pinching myself, it’s a miracle really,” she said.
