Students from the Hatfield Kumon Centre were honoured for their progress and results in English and maths at an Advanced Student Role (ASR) award ceremony.

Kumon is a method of learning developed in Japan and provides maths and English programmes that develop independent learning among students.

The ceremony was held jointly with Harpenden Kumon Centre and around 200 students and parents attended.

Helen Hudson, instructor at the Bishops Rise-based centre, said the event went really well.

She added: The parents were really happy and the children were so proud of their awards.

Mr Daymond, headteacher at Roundwood Park School in Harpenden, presented the students with gold, silver, bronze and merit certificates after giving a short speech.
