Potters Bar’s MP has ensured that a red phone box in South Mimms was restored following a public outcry.

The village’s iconic phone box had fallen into a state of disrepair, but after being re-elected as Hertsmere’s MP last month, Mr Dowden contacted British Telecom on behalf of residents.

He said: “I’m very pleased to have received the news that South Mimms’ phone box has been repaired and restored by BT.

“These phone boxes are wonderful parts of our local landscape here in Hertsmere and I was sorry to see this one in such a poor condition during the campaign.

“I’m grateful to the South Mimms residents who brought this to my attention and am glad to have been able to help see the box returned to its old self.”

Following the recent repair and cleaning work, the box will also be receiving a complete new coat of paint later in the year in time for Christmas.
