A PLANT pathologist at the University of Hertfordshire has been awarded an honorary professorship.

On a recent trip to China, Dr Avice Hall was presented the award by the Inner Mongolia Academy of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry.

She received the honour in recognition of her achievements in plant pathology for the benefit of the agricultural and horticultural industry in both the UK and China.

Dr Hall, pictured, who was made an MBE in the last New Year Honours List, said: “I am deeply honoured and privileged to receive this honorary professorship which forges the link between the University of Hertfordshire and the Inner Mongolia Academy of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry.

“This month a Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between the two institutions, establishing a Sino-UK Laboratory Collaboration for Plant Protection and Biotechnology, so I look forward to us working together in the future.”

During her time at the Hatfield uni, Dr Hall has established an international reputation for her work as a plant pathologist.

Her ground-breaking research into strawberry powdery mildew has assisted growers and furthered knowledge of fungal diseases on our most valuable soft fruit crop.
