WARNINGS circulating around Hertfordshire about sex attacks on women have been dismissed as unfounded by police.
Hertfordshire Constabulary has tonight (Tuesday) issued a statement to “dispel fear following a well-meaning but unfounded warning about a specific ruse to commit sexual assault”.
A spokeswoman said: “Schools have been wrongly notified, and there are rumours circulating on social media, that a young boy is claiming to need help to lure women into being attacked.
“Please be assured that there is no evidence of this taking place in Hertfordshire.
“The information has been fully researched and it is believed to be a story which originated in America.”
The spokeswoman added: “While people should be generally aware of their personal safety at all times, residents in Hertfordshire should not be concerned that this type of activity is taking place.”
