THE provider of community health services across Hertfordshire has appointed a new chief executive and a medical director to its board.

Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust has appointed David Law as its new chief executive, while Dr Hemal Desai is the new medical director.

Mr Law, who joins on March 12, has worked in a number of planning roles in health organisations in the county during the 1990s before joining West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust in 2001 as director of strategy, before later being appointed chief executive.

He has also worked on projects involving service change and the transfer of PCT community services to NHS trusts in London.

Dr Desai also comes to the trust with a wealth of experience; as a GP and in his role as clinical lead to the NHS Midlands and East Strategic projects team.

He is still practising as a sessional GP and has worked in more than 70 primary care services.

Dr Desai is also a clinical lead on a number of Department of Health and international projects. He will join the trust on February 13.

Trust chairman Declan O’Farrell said he was “delighted” to acquire the services of “such high quality people”.

“They have an in depth knowledge and experience of primary and community health services – both at a strategic planning level and working ‘at the coalface’ – which will prove invaluable as we move towards becoming a foundation trust.”
