Hatfield Swim Centre’s main pool is closed today after a faeces was spotted in the water.

A customer notice on its website stated: “Due to an incident in the Main Pool last night unfortunately it will be closed until Tuesday 25th July.

“The Learner pool and Splash pool remain open as usual. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.”

However, a borough council spokeswoman confirmed it had been closed after a child defecated in the pool last night, and said that because the stools were loose it will remain closed until tomorrow.

The incident took place at around 6.30pm during a private session, following which everyone was immediately evacuated, the council spokeswoman confirmed.

A Finesse spokeswoman said: “As part of our protocol, the pool had to remain closed to allow all of the water to filter through our sanitisation system. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and we look forward to welcoming our customers back tomorrow.”
