Welwyn Garden City’s Gosling Sports Park was evacuated this afternoon (June 19) following reports of a building fire.

A Herts Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said that two engines from WGC and Hatfield were sent to the Stanborough Road facility following reports of the blaze at 2.49pm.

She said that the premises was evacuated, but when crews arrived it turned out to be sparking in a faulty light in one of the halls.

The engines then left at around 3.10pm.

Greenwich Leisure Ltd, which runs the WGC sports park, has been contacted for comment.
