A NEW world record was set in Hatfield today (Thursday) – for the fastest ever shopping trolley.

Bosses at Tesco Extra in Hatfield were today awarded an official certificate from Guinness World Record adjudicators, after a 2.5m, two seater motorised shopping trolley set a new milestone in shopping cart capabilities.

The zany stunt was the result of a Facebook competition run by Tesco, asking customers what world record they’d most like to hold.

The competition was won by 15-year-old Rosalyn Wild from Milford Haven in Wales, who was in the passenger seat during the trolley’s record-breaking dash.

Rosalyn said: “It was such a surprise to be chosen.

“I was so excited when I found out I was going to take part in a record breaking challenge. I had such a great day; it will be something I will never forget.”

Tesco store manager Mark Townsend said: “The trolley looks brilliant; my staff had a great time having a ride around the car park.

“I am delighted Guinness World Records chose Hatfield to carry out their world record attempt.”
