GHOSTLY goings-on at a village shop have led to plans for a paranormal tour.

Samantha Woodland, who owns Datchworth Deli and Tea Room, said a pesky poltergeist had been moving a thermometer in her fridge and restlessly stomping around in the upper floor of the building.

She told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “We’ve heard footsteps upstairs and there is no one living there and things are moved.”

Samantha said Datchworth was the most haunted village in Hertfordshire and, as well as her resident ghost, the village was also home to the tormented spirit of 18th century highwayman Walter Clibbon.

Notorious murderer and robber Clibbon’s dead body rested at The Horns pub, in nearby Bulls Green, after he was killed. The pub is to be the finishing point of her ghost walk entitled ‘Most Haunted Datchworth’, which she hopes to hold on Saturdays starting at the end of this month.

There are also reports that witchcraft had been practised in the village adding to the eeriness of her tour.

She said so far news of the walk had only been “word-of-mouth” but “there are so many people interested”.

Samantha said she also plans to open a tea room in “a couple of months” where visitors can enjoy a cuppa and a ghostly encounter at the same time.
