Over 50 per cent of students at Mount Grace School in Church Road gained five A* to C grades in their examinations – up by 8 per cent on last year’s results.

Head Peter Baker said: “This is an astonishing outcome.

“We were reasonably confident of surpassing the 45 per cent mark at the end of the exam period, but I don’t think anybody expected this.

“The year 11 students have exceeded all expectations – I am delighted for them and their families.

“This is a super way to kick off the new school year.”
