Hunters Bridge car park in Welwyn Garden City now has free parking for 30 minutes

Free parking in two Welwyn Garden City car parks has been extended by the borough council.

Motorists using Hunters Bridge multi-storey and Campus West will now be able to stay free for 30 minutes – extended from the previous 10.

Drivers can park, shop and drive away without using the payment machines, as the 30 minutes will be applied in the back office.

A council spokeswoman said it follows consultations with residents and businesses about how to better meet the needs of local residents, businesses and shoppers.

Cllr Helen Bromley, executive member for environment, said: “We want to encourage as many people as possible to shop locally and make full use of our town centre shops and businesses.

“We’ve listened to people who have told us how important it is to have the flexibility to run a few short errands and, longer term, we hope to reduce congestion and make the town centre environment more pleasant for all.”
