Pupils at Welwyn Garden City’s Springmead Primary School are soaking up a “rip-roaring” atmosphere while enjoying World Book Day.
The nationwide event is a celebration of authors, illustrators and books, and aims to help encourage children to explore the pleasure of reading.
Teacher Gareth Griffith, who is the lead for reading, told the WHT: “It’s a fantastic opportunity to grow children’s love of books and they are all really excited.
“We have got someone in the library and she is just going through sections, and you just see their faces light up.
“They see a book they have never seen before and you see the awe and wonder.”
He explained that Springmead’s theme was bedtime books, with children being encouraged to come in their pyjamas and onesies, enabling parents to spend money on a book rather than a costume.
