Harwood Hill JMI & Nursery School’s pupils have soaked up lessons in story-writing and making pop-up books as part of World Book Day.
The Welwyn Garden City school celebrated the event today (Friday, March 2), which was made particularly special ahead of a new £20k library being built in the next few months.
Headteacher Yvette Page told the WHT that it was being funded by its parent and teacher association, Friends of Harwood Hill, which raised the money through fireworks displays, summer fairs and other community events.
Reflecting on World Book Day, she added: “We have had a fantastic day. All the children are dressed up as their favourite book characters.
“Kathryn Holt, who is a storyteller, is also helping our reception and nursery children to understand how stories work and to create their own.”
Paper engineer John O’Leary has also been teaching the rest of the school how to make pop-up books.
World Book Day is a nationwide event celebrating authors, illustrators and books, and aims to encourage children to explore the pleasure of reading.
