Howe Dell Primary School’s youngsters visited Ark Farm to meet its birds, sheep and ponies as part of an educational week designed to teach them how fair trade works.

The children – who also dressed up as a range of fruit, vegetables and farm animals – learnt throughout the week about healthy life choices, how smoothies are made, and had a go at preparing their own food in class.

Howe Dell headteacher Debra Massey said: “During the week children prepared food, parents came to the site to talk about how they work in the food industry, and of course there was also a chance to dress up.

“This follows the success of previous Pet Days in School and the visit of some reindeer last term.

“Animals bring out every child’s curiosity and this is then incorporated into creative and factual writing.”
