The long-awaited DIY SOS episode featuring a Welwyn Garden City family will be on your TV screens tonight.

Tune in at 9pm on BBC One to see how Sascha and Andrew Koutrouza, of Welwyn Garden City, four-bedroom house was given a new rear extension by the DIY SOS team between August 22 and September 1, 2016.

Sascha, 36, was diagnosed with end-stage kidney failure in 2012. She also endured a failed transplant from her brother and suffered health complications including blood clots on the lungs.

The ex-University of Hertfordshire student had to endure intensive dialysis at Lister Hospital five times a week for hours on end at a time just to stay alive, which she juggled with while looking after her four children and her part-time job as a midwife.

The BBC has described the episode as ‘emotionally charged’ as Sascha’s home is completely renovated and extended to include a dedicated home-dialysis room, which offers her a lifeline and extra years with her family.

Well over 100 traders and suppliers, mostly from the Welwyn Hatfield area, helped the project by working or providing materials for free.
