A disabled man in his 60s had hundreds of pounds worth of cash snatched from him in Welwyn Garden City.

The theft happened on Woodhall Parade in Cole Green Lane, where the victim had just taken money out of the cash point near Martins newsagents while on his mobility scooter.

He was in the process of returning his wallet to his pocket when the offender approached him and took it from his hand, before leaving the scene on a bicycle. They did not speak to the victim during the incident.

PC Greig Langdon today appealed for witnesses following the theft at around 9.20am on Tuesday, September 5.

He said: “This offender has targeted a vulnerable person for their own gain and I am doing all I can to trace the person responsible.

“The incident happened very quickly therefore the victim was unable to get a good look at the offender. He was able to see that the person was wearing a dark jacket and dark trousers.

“I am urging anyone who was in the area at the time, and may have seen what happened or someone leaving the scene on a bike, to please come forward and speak to me.”

Anyone with information can call non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference B1/17/3621.
