The A1(M) is closed southbound between Junction 3 for Hatfield and Junction 1 which leads to the M25 due to a serious collision.

Police are currently on the scene leading the emergency services to attend the nine vehicles that were involved.

A police spokesman said: “We were called at 6.11am after reports of a nine vehicle collision on the A1M for Junction 2.

“Several injuries have been reported, all minor injuries by the sound of it.”

There are long delays from Junction 6 for Welwyn of at least 60 minutes and traffic is travelling towards the M25.

Highways England have advised that commuters consider the alternative A14 and M11 route.

The crash has also caused traffic chaos in Hatfield and Welwyn Garden City.
