A Welwyn Garden City man has been jailed after stealing from a DIY store, college and sports centre.

Dean Harper, 44, of Moatwood Green, was sentenced at Hatfield Magistrates’ Court on August 18.

He admitted four charges which involved entering buildings in Welwyn Garden City as a trespasser and stealing cash.

On August 13, he stole cash from Wickes.

On August 8, he stole cash from Oaklands College.

On two occasions he targeted Gosling Sports Park.

On August 7, he stole money from vending machines.

Ten days later, he returned and stole one iPhone, three iPads and a petty cash tin.

Magistrates considered the offences to be especially serious given that they had taken place soon after his release from custody.

Harper was jailed for a total of 14 weeks.

He was ordered to pay compensation of £2 to Wickes, £1,037.25 to Oaklands College and £2,000 to Gosling Sports Park.
