FORMER England goalkeeper David James has been made an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

The 41-year-old, who is from Welwyn Garden City, was recognised for his charity work and services to sport.

The shot-stopper made his professional debut for Watford in 1988.

He went on to play for Liverpool, Aston Villa, West Ham United, Manchester City, Portsmouth and Bristol City.

Capped 53 times for England, James is currently working for the BBC as part of the broadcaster’s Euro 2012 coverage in Poland and Ukraine.
