Members of the Service by Emergency Rider Volunteers (SERV), known as Blood Runners, visited the QE2 Hospital in WGC to collect a cheque for £725 from the Waggoners Square Dance Club.

The club, based in Hertingfordbury, raised the cash through their Christmas party and harvest festival, as well as through charges from overdue books loaned out from the club’s own library.

Club chairman Bob Padget said: “We wish the Blood Runners continued success in providing this vital service to the hospitals, and hope they will attract further funding to their charity to enable them to carry on the good work.”

The Blood Runners deliver emergency blood and blood products to the QE2, Stevenage’s Lister Hospital and Bedford Hospital between 7pm and 6am seven nights a week, 52 weeks of the year.

SERV is currently looking to recruit new volunteers in order to keep the service running.
