Eyewitnesses say several parked cars were damaged in the collision at about 6.45pm yesterday at the Oldings Corner car park.

One man, who was in a car with his 18-month-old son, rushed over to help a woman.

His wife Tara Miri, who was shopping in Tesco at the time, told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “My husband Matin heard a bang.

“He jumped out of the car to get the lady out when he saw the smoke coming up and water coming from underneath her car.

“He opened the door to get her out because she was in shock.”

Matin, who works as a carpet cleaner, had been parked in bays opposite the area where the crash happened.

A police community support officer was also on the scene to help.

A police spokeswoman said a Ford Focus Titanium, Honda CR-V, Vauxhall Vectra, Fiat 500 and Mercedes E320 were involved in the crash.

She added; “We came across a five-vehicle collision in a car park.

“All was in order - details were exchanged and vehicles were recovered.”
