A FORKLIFT truck was smashed into a shop-front as burglars attempted to rip a cash machine off the wall.
Two men in boiler suits attacked Huttons newsagents at 3am this morning (Wednesday).
They drove a Manitou truck into the Marsden Road shop, but according to shopkeepers did not manage to get away with any money.
The shop remains open this morning and will continue trading as per normal.
Resilient shop-owner Richard Edlin: “We were still open first thing – we had to sell and deliver the Welwyn Hatfield Times!”
He added: “The cash machine should be back and up and running again by the weekend.”
