Mardley Heath will get a face life following additional funding

A NATURE reserve is to be revamped after receiving almost £34,000 in new funding over two years.

Mardley Heath, near Woolmer Green, will benefit from improved accessibility, better signage and new circular walks, thanks to the £33,787 which has been given to the Countryside Management Service, which manages the site on behalf of Welwyn Hatfield Council.

The council contributed £11,377, construction firm Lafarge donated £12,500 the Forestry Commission pledged £9,440 and Hertfordshire County Council gave £470 to the project.

The money will also pay for two new disabled parking bays at the nature reserve.

Cllr Colin Couch, executive member for environment, said: “The works will greatly improve accessibility to Mardley Heath.

“It’s fascinating learning about the biodiversity in the area, and by sign posting and creating information boards, it really opens up the space for visitors to learn more.”
