A car is facing the wrong way on the A1(M)’s central reservation between Welwyn and Stevenage after a crash this morning.

The crash, near Junction 6 for Welwyn, involved a single vehicle – a red Peugeot 206 – and happened on the northbound carriageway at about 7.20am.

Police said the driver had got out of the car and was on the hard shoulder, and that paramedics had not been required.

Officers remain at the scene. The crash has not caused any lane closures, but congestion on the northbound stretch around Junction 6 is causing delays of about 10 minutes.

Separately, congestion on the A1(M)’s southbound stretch between Junction 10 for Baldock services and Junction 6 for Welwyn is delaying journeys by about 10 minutes. The traffic is particularly bad between Junctions 8 and 7 for Stevenage.
