A burglary in Welwyn Garden City was interrupted when an elderly resident shouted at an intruder in her home.

The woman was upstairs at her home in Guessens Road at around 8pm yesterday when she heard a burglar downstairs, who had entered through the front window.

She shouted and disturbed the intruder, who left through the patio door.

A number of other burglaries were reported around Welwyn Garden City last night.

A statement from Police Community Support Officer Bill McCaskie said: “We are now at the time that burglary starts to peak. The nights are getting dark earlier and at the end of this month the clocks will be going back

“Please give your house the lived in look by leaving lights on and maybe a radio if you are out to make it appear you are in. Double lock front doors and if you have window locks please make sure they are secured.”
