THE BODY of a woman in her 50s has been discovered in WGC’s Black Fan Lagoon this morning (Saturday).
The unknown woman was found with curlers in her hair, at the beauty spot, off the Mundells in WGC.
Dog walkers reported seeing the body in the lagoon to police at 9.11am.
Police and fire crews attended the scene and recovered the body.
The woman is described as being a white believed to be aged in her 50s or 60s, with light brown hair (possibly with some grey in it) that was in curlers. She is around five foot five to five foot nine tall, wearing white Reebok trainers, black trousers, and olive green coloured jumper.
She has hooped earrings in both ears – one small and one large in each. She was also wearing several gold neck chains and two bracelets on her right wrist, one gold and one silver in colour.
A parka style brown coat with a furry hood and a shopping bag were found nearby.
The area is currently cordoned off.
At this stage, police are not treating it as a suspicious death.
Detective inspector Dianne Watson said: “We are appealing to anyone who thinks they recognise the description of this lady to get in touch.
“If you have any information that could help, please call the police non-emergency number 101.”
