More than 50 players took part in pétanque – a game similar to boules – to raise money for Tiegan’s Star, a charity which was set up in memory of Knebworth’s Tiegan Jane Bunn.

Tiegan’s Star supports patients on the children’s oncology and haematology unit at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge in a variety of ways, from providing nappies, food boxes, wash bags and travel cots to assisting with memory days.

Knebworth’s Syri Noble, who organised the event at Arlesey Town Pétanque Club, said: “The generosity, kindness and stoicism in the face of the weather – it was pouring with rain – was astonishing.

“I am proud and humbled by every single person who got involved. Thank you all so much.”
