A government body charged with improving the country’s housing stock has built over 80 affordable homes in Welwyn Hatfield.

Homes England’s latest figures show that it delivered 83 dwellings that are designated as affordable accommodation between April 2015 and March 2018.

It means they are available as social housing or to rent with rates capped at no more than 80 per cent of the local market average.

The figure comes alongside the 180 affordable homes delivered to date by Welwyn Hatfield Council.

Nick Walkley, Homes England’s chief executive, said: “These official figures show that the overall number of homes being built continues to steadily increase, but we know there is more to do.

“Homes England will bring together our money, expertise, planning and compulsory purchase powers to secure the delivery of new homes where they are most needed.”
