Eleven fire crews from across Hertfordshire helped tackle a fire on the ninth floor of a block of flats in Hatfield.

At around 5pm on Thursday, August 17, Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service received multiple reports of a flat on fire at Goldings House, off Goldings Crescent in Hatfield.

Fire, police and ambulance services responded, with the first units at the block in less than four minutes.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire by 6.30pm and there were no injuries, with an investigation launched to establish how the blaze started.

"Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue received multiple calls of a flat on fire in Goldings House, Hatfield shortly after 5pm on Thursday.

"First responders were on scene within four minutes, with additional crews being stood up as the incident progressed. In total, 11 appliances attended.

"A flat on the ninth floor was found to be ablaze. The fire was extinguished by 6.30 pm, and all members of the public were accounted for.

"A fire investigation will now to launch to ascertain the cause of the fire."

A spokesperson for Herts police added: "Police were called at around 5.30pm to assist the fire and rescue service at the scene of a fire in Goldings House, Hatfield.

"Officers attended the scene and put road closures in place while the incident was dealt with. Nobody was injured.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish how the fire started."
