A broken road sign in central Welwyn Garden City has still not been replaced, three months after the county council was told about it.

County councillor Malcom Cowan reported the road sign on a roundabout on Osborn Way, apparently knocked over by a motorist, to contractor Ringway on April 3, and the Welwyn Hatfield Times also asked the county council about it.

Although the broken sign was removed last month, it has still not been replaced.

Kevin Carrol, Ringway divisional manager, told the Welwyn Hatfield Times in early June: “Its replacement has been added to a county-wide programme of sign replacement works that are scheduled for later in the year.

“Delivering works like this, in a planned and programmed way, ensures most efficient use of taxpayers’ money.”

Councillor Cowan said: “When will someone senior realise we have a failing contract operated by a contractor with no supervision? Why is such a lack of service acceptable?”
