Highways England is warning motorists of severe delays on the M25 in Hertfordshire following an earlier crash.

Police were called at 11.29am to a collision involving a van and lorry on the clockwise carriageway just by the Junction 23 exit for South Mimms, which is between St Albans and Potters Bar.

A police spokeswoman said: “One driver had to be freed from a vehicle by the fire service, which meant the entire carriageway was closed for sometime.”

Highways England tweeted shortly after 1pm: “On the #M25 c/wise, we’ve been able to keep one lane open past the scene of a collision, J22 - J23. Recovery trucks on scene. 6 mile queue.”
