Welwyn Hatfield District Sports Awards 2007
IT'S that time of the year again to start voting for your local sporting heroes.
As 2007 draws to a close, the Welwyn Hatfield Borough Sports Awards are back once again.
Now in its four year, the annual event will recognise the cream of the district's sporting talent - both on the field of play and behind the scenes.
Organised by Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council and fully supported by the Welwyn & Hatfield Times, there are 10 awards open to the public for nomination. The trophies will be handed out on January 24, 2008 at an awards ceremony held at Campus West, WGC.

There will also be the Welwyn Hatfield Sports and Physical Activity Alliance Award judged by a special panel for outstanding achievement.
PLEASE NOTE: To be nominated for an award individuals must be a resident of Welwyn Hatfield or attend a club, school or sports organisations based in the district, whilst sports clubs and school must be based in the district.
Judging Criteria
Club of the Year
This award celebrates the successes of our clubs and their achievements in terms of development. The judges will look at:
Successes. What significant successes have the club had in the last 12 months?
Development: How has the club developed sport in the last 12 months (eg school links, community involvement)?
The X factor What makes the club stand out against other clubs?
Team of the Year
The team of the year award recognises the many outstanding performances of teams in the Borough. The judges will look at:
Achievement over the year: What achievements has the team achieved in the past year?
The “X factor”: What makes this team stand out from other teams?
School Team of the Year
The school team of the year award recognises the many outstanding performances of teams at schools. The judges will look at:
Achievement over the year: What has the team achieved in the past year?
The X factor: What makes this school team stand out from other school teams?
School Teacher of the Year
The teacher of the year award celebrates and rewards the outstanding contribution made by schoolteachers to sport. The judges will look at:
Enthusiasm for Teaching: How has the teacher demonstrated their enthusiasm for teaching?
Impact: What impact has the teacher had on sport at their school?
The X Factor: What makes this teacher stand out from other teachers?
School Pupil of the Year
The school pupil of the year award rewards the many successes that individuals have achieved at school in the last year. The judges will look at:
Achievement over the year: What has the person achieved in the past year?
The X Factor: What makes this sports person stand out from others?
Coach of the Year
The coach of the year award recognises and celebrates the achievements and success of our many sport coaches. The judges will look at:
Enthusiasm for Coaching: How has the coach demonstrated their enthusiasm for coaching?
Impact: What impact has the coach had on the sport they are involved in?
The X Factor: What makes this coach stand out from other coaches?
Sports Person of the Year (All Ages)
The sports person of the year award is open to all ages and aims to celebrate the achievements of our talented athletes. The judges will look at:
Achievements over the year: What has the person achieved in the past year?
The X Factor: What makes this sports person stand out from others?
Young Leader of Year (U18s)
This award celebrates and rewards young people’s involvement in sport as coaches, organisers and general helpers. The judges will look at:
Enthusiasm for Leading: How has the young person demonstrated their enthusiasm for sport?
Impact: What impact has the young person had on the sport(s) they are involved in?
The “X” Factor: What makes this young leader stand out from others?
Contribution to Disability Sport
This award celebrates the contribution made by individuals to disability sport. This could be as a coach, teacher, volunteer or organiser. The judges will look at:
Impact made to sport: What impact has the person had on disability sport at their club, school or in the community?
The X factor: What makes this persons stand out from other people?
Service to Sport
This awards celebrates individual’s long service to sport. The judges will be look at:
Commitment to sport: What level of commitment has the individual shown to sport over the years?
The X Factor: What makes this person stand out from others?
