Olympic Profiles - Swimming - Hayley Sage
Name: Hayley Sage
Date of Birth: 01/08/1986
Born: Welwyn Garden City
Lives: Sheffield
Sport: Diving
Section: Women's 3m synchro
Club: City of Sheffield
Interesting Fact: Like fellow diver Ben Swain, Hayley started her career at the Beaumont Diving Academy in Hatfield.
A year ago it appeared the star from Hertford would face the surgeon’s knife in a bid to straighten out her big toe joint. Such a procedure so close to the Beijing qualification process would have more than likely ruined her chances of Olympic selection.
But all was to be saved by a London-based podiatrist, and a silicon wedge was made to fit between Hayley's big toe and next toe to keep the joint straight.
WHT Olympic analysis: Hayley is no stranger to medal success, having won bronze in the Commonwealth Games two years ago with partner Tandi Gerrard, and again a bronze at the FINA World Series event in Nanjing earlier this year.
However, Sage and her diving partner will have it all to do competing against very tough Chinese, Russian and American synchro teams.
The event is a straight final, so it all depends on who performs on the day.
