09/06/2008, 5:41 PM Michelle Fosbrook Joined on 16/05/2003 Hertfordshire Posts 67 Football referee dies following asthma attack Carl Couzens, a football referee died after suffering a severe asthma attack on Friday (June 6, 2008), aged 36. Carl, who lived on the Westmill estate in Hitchin, had spent the evening out with a friend before he suffered the fatal attack. On Hertfordshire Football Association's website he is described as one of the "brightest and best loved referees".
